PTA Google MoU Strengthens Child Online Safety Awareness In Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Google LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on strengthening child online safety across Pakistan. The partnership aims to enhance awareness, improve digital protection measures and encourage responsible use of online platforms among children, parents, teachers and caregivers nationwide.

Under the agreement, PTA and Google will jointly implement a Child Safety Program designed to promote awareness, education and capacity development related to safer digital experiences. The initiative will provide parents and educators with practical tools, guidance and resources to help children navigate the online environment more securely while developing responsible digital habits. The collaboration will include the development of child online safety awareness material in English and local languages to ensure wider accessibility for communities across Pakistan. As part of the initiative, training sessions will also be organized at educational institutions to educate students, teachers and parents about online risks, digital responsibility and ways to create safer digital spaces for children. A nationwide outreach campaign will further connect millions of families with localized online safety resources, tutorials and educational content.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, PTA Chairman Maj. Gen. (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, emphasized the importance of collective efforts involving multiple stakeholders to protect children in an increasingly digital environment. He highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between technology platforms, regulatory bodies, educational institutions and communities to improve awareness and promote safer internet usage among young users. Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member (Compliance & Enforcement) at PTA, highlighted the significance of improving digital literacy and encouraging responsible platform usage among children and families. He stressed that awareness and education play a key role in helping users understand online safety practices and making informed decisions while engaging with digital services.

The partnership between PTA and Google reflects a shared commitment to empowering parents, teachers and caregivers with the necessary knowledge and resources to support children in the digital era. Through awareness campaigns, educational initiatives and access to online safety materials, the collaboration seeks to build a more secure and responsible online environment for children across Pakistan.
