National CERT And NUTECH Partner To Strengthen Pakistan Cybersecurity Ecosystem Under CIE Initiative

National CERT and NUTECH have entered into a strategic collaboration under the Cyber Innovation Ecosystem initiative aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s cybersecurity landscape through coordinated efforts between academia, industry, and government institutions. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Islamabad by Brigadier retired Asif Raza Kazmi, Director TDC at National CERT, and Brigadier Salman Zafar retired, Registrar at NUTECH, in the presence of senior representatives from both organizations including Dr. Haider Abbas and Major General Khurrum Qadri retired, Pro Rector Planning and Resources at NUTECH.

The collaboration focuses on developing cybersecurity capacity in Pakistan through specialized education, technical training, research initiatives, and industry engagement programs. Under the agreement, both institutions will jointly organize cybersecurity workshops, seminars, training sessions, and hackathons designed to improve cyber awareness and strengthen technical expertise among students, professionals, and practitioners. Officials involved in the initiative stated that the partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and operational cybersecurity requirements by creating programs aligned with current digital security challenges and evolving threat environments.

As part of the agreement, National CERT and NUTECH will also support research and development initiatives connected to national cybersecurity priorities. The institutions plan to facilitate final year project opportunities and research collaborations that encourage students to work on practical cybersecurity problems relevant to Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and cyber defense needs. The initiative is expected to provide students with exposure to modern cybersecurity technologies, threat analysis methodologies, and incident response practices while encouraging innovation in locally developed cyber solutions. Representatives from both organizations emphasized the importance of indigenous talent development as Pakistan continues expanding its digital economy and critical technology infrastructure.

The partnership additionally includes internship programs, short term technical engagements, and practical learning opportunities intended to help students gain real world cybersecurity experience. According to the participating organizations, these programs are designed to prepare future cybersecurity professionals by exposing them to operational security environments and emerging cyber threats. Industry observers note that collaborations between academic institutions and national cybersecurity organizations are becoming increasingly important as governments and enterprises face growing risks related to digital attacks, data security, and cyber resilience.

Officials stated that the collaboration under the Cyber Innovation Ecosystem initiative reflects a broader commitment to creating a secure and innovation driven cyber environment in Pakistan. By combining academic expertise with operational cybersecurity knowledge, National CERT and NUTECH aim to support the development of skilled cybersecurity professionals capable of contributing to national cyber defense, digital governance, and secure technology adoption across public and private sector organizations.
