Pakistan Establishes National Threat Intelligence System To Strengthen Cybersecurity

Pakistan has taken a significant step in strengthening its cybersecurity framework with the establishment of a national-level threat intelligence integration and sharing system aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure and enhancing cyber defense capabilities. Developed by National CERT, the system is built on the Malware Information Sharing Platform (MISP) and has been integrated with Pakistan Army Cyber Division-101 and PTA to create a unified national cyber defense posture. This initiative is intended to improve coordination and ensure timely responses to cyber threats targeting government networks, telecom systems, and essential national infrastructure.

Sources revealed that the system allows seamless intelligence sharing between National CERT, Pakistan Army Cyber Division-101, and PTA. By centralizing and correlating threat data, the platform enables authorities to detect potential cyber threats at an early stage, particularly those targeting critical sectors. Officials highlighted that the locally governed MISP-based system strengthens Pakistan’s cyber sovereignty by minimizing reliance on external intelligence sources while improving preparedness against advanced persistent threats and state-sponsored cyber operations.

The integrated platform enhances national cyber situational awareness, allowing institutions to respond in real time to emerging threats. It facilitates the sharing of indicators of compromise, including malicious IP addresses, domains, file hashes, and attack techniques, enabling faster detection and containment of cyber incidents. By providing centralized threat intelligence, the system reduces response times, limits the impact of cyberattacks, and promotes coordinated action among national institutions. This approach ensures stronger communication and rapid escalation during incidents affecting key sectors and national networks, enhancing overall resilience.

Authorities emphasized that the system supports predictive analysis and threat hunting, allowing preventive measures before attacks occur. The platform’s real-time intelligence sharing capabilities are expected to improve collective defense capabilities across government, defense, and telecom sectors, providing timely alerts and actionable insights to protect national cybersecurity interests. By integrating multiple national stakeholders under a single threat intelligence framework, Pakistan aims to establish a proactive approach to cyber defense, ensuring that critical infrastructure remains protected and operational amid evolving cyber threats.

The development of this national threat intelligence system demonstrates a focused effort to enhance the country’s cyber readiness. It is designed not only to respond to incidents but also to anticipate and mitigate potential risks, reinforcing Pakistan’s ability to manage cybersecurity challenges effectively. Through continuous monitoring, collaboration, and data-driven intelligence, the system strengthens the overall security posture, supporting both operational resilience and strategic national security objectives in cyberspace.
