Under this directive, Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority ICT-PEIRA has entered into collaboration with Cisco Networking Academy to initiate a large scale capacity building program aimed at strengthening digital defenses within the education sector of the federal capital.
The mandate applies to every teaching and non teaching staff member who uses computers, official email systems, digital portals, or mobile devices for institutional tasks. According to official communication, the growing reliance on digital platforms for academic management, communication, data storage, and administrative processes has significantly increased exposure to cyber risks. Authorities have expressed concern that with the rapid adoption of modern AI tools and online systems, educational institutions are becoming more vulnerable to hacking attempts, phishing campaigns, ransomware incidents, and unauthorized data access. The government has therefore categorized cybersecurity preparedness as an urgent requirement rather than an optional professional development activity.
Under the new requirements, all relevant personnel are legally obligated to enroll in and complete specialized online courses focused on cybersecurity fundamentals and digital safety practices. These courses are designed to equip staff with knowledge about identifying suspicious links, securing login credentials, safeguarding student and institutional data, recognizing social engineering tactics, and responding appropriately to potential breaches. The initiative aims to reduce human error, which remains one of the leading causes of security incidents globally. By partnering with Cisco Networking Academy, ICT-PEIRA intends to provide internationally recognized training modules that align with contemporary security standards while remaining accessible to educators and administrative teams with varying levels of technical expertise.
The Ministry has set March 8, 2026 as the strict deadline for completion of the certifications. School management bodies have been instructed to treat the implementation as a top administrative priority and to ensure full compliance within the stipulated timeframe. Authorities have warned that failure to adhere to the directive may invite regulatory consequences under applicable institutional guidelines. Officials maintain that strengthening digital awareness at the grassroots level of educational institutions will enhance resilience against evolving cyber threats and protect sensitive academic and personal data.
