Pakistan Secretary Amb. Amna Baloch inaugurated the five-day Pakistan–UNIDIR Cyber Capacity-Building & Policy Training Programme in Islamabad, marking the beginning of an intensive session aimed at strengthening national cyber policy and technical expertise. The programme brings together policymakers, technical specialists, and academics to enhance understanding of emerging cybersecurity challenges, policy frameworks, and international best practices. Designed to foster dialogue between multiple stakeholders, the training focuses on the intersection of technology, governance, and security in the digital realm.
Running from January 12 to 16, 2026, the programme is structured to provide participants with both theoretical and practical insights into cyber capacity building. Sessions include policy-oriented discussions, technical workshops, and scenario-based exercises that allow attendees to analyze real-world cybersecurity threats and explore mitigation strategies. By involving representatives from diverse sectors, the programme seeks to create a shared understanding of critical cyber challenges and promote collaborative approaches to digital security and governance.
UNIDIR representatives highlighted the significance of fostering national expertise to address evolving cyber threats, emphasizing that capacity-building initiatives play a central role in equipping nations to respond effectively to complex challenges in cyberspace. Participants will also explore international norms, regulatory frameworks, and ethical considerations, ensuring that the training encompasses not only technical solutions but also the policy and governance dimensions of cybersecurity. This approach is intended to help policymakers and technical experts make informed decisions while coordinating effectively with national and global stakeholders.
The training programme represents a key step in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its cyber ecosystem and policy framework. By combining policy guidance with hands-on technical expertise, it aims to develop a skilled cohort of professionals capable of shaping secure, resilient, and sustainable cyber infrastructures. The collaborative initiative also underscores the importance of partnerships between national authorities and international organizations, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its cyber resilience through education, research, and cross-sector dialogue.
